Netflix viewers rush to binge 'chilling' Swedish crime drama climbing up charts (2025)

A ‘gripping’ Nordic noir drama has become one of the most-watched shows in the UK since being released this week.

The Swedish series The Glass Dome dropped on the streaming service two days ago and is now the fourth-most watched TV show on the platform.

Written by Camilla Läckberg (Lyckoviken) and directed by Lisa Farzaneh (Young Royals) and Henrik Björn (Jordskott), the six-part series follows a criminologist who returns to her small hometown and ‘becomes wrapped up in the investigation of a missing girl and its haunting similarities to her own childhood abduction’.

Léonie Vincent (Bäckström) stars as Lejla Ness who in the wake of her adoptive mother’s death is thrown into a dark mystery involving the disappearance of her friend’s young daughter, Alicia (Minoo Andacheh).

It’s been teased of the show that: ‘In a village in Sweden, Lejla returns to her childhood home, a place caught between tradition and modernization, causing tension among its citizens. For Lejla, however, her return is overshadowed by something far more dark and intimidating than she ever anticipated.

‘As a child, she was held captive in the area by an unknown perpetrator, trapped in a glass dome. Now, another young girl has disappeared without a trace. As Lejla investigates the disappearance, she must also confront her own inner darkness—a part of her past she’s tried to avoid.

‘Are the similarities between Lejla’s past and the girl’s disappearance just a chilling coincidence? Or is history repeating itself?’

The series – which currently holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – has been praised by both critics and audiences.

‘Here’s a psychological thriller that says, essentially, “hold my beer” to the myriad other half-hearted efforts ever-squatting in Netflix’s interminable thumbnails,’ Ready Steady Cut wrote in its review.

‘Several aspects of the plot are left unexamined, and characters sometimes act contradictory to what’s been established, but the storytelling effectively misdirects and twists leading to a satisfyingly dark conclusion,’ Movies and Munchies shared.

‘This enterprise certainly gets the job done as a whodunit, but it’s more tantalizing as a character study; it’s at its most gripping when we’re in Lejla’s head,’ Collider added.

Meanwhile fans said they were ‘hooked’ on the ‘10/10’ show.

‘It’s beautifully done. Performances are spot on. She is perfect. Cinematography is top notch,’ user WBEmirgen commented on YouTube.

‘Unexpected and brilliant! This thriller has a terrific ending,’ slatedsue4330 added.

The Glass Dome also stars Johan Hedenberg, and Johan Rheborg, Farzad Farzaneh, Ia Langhammer, Cecilia Nilsson and Emil Almén.
