The wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 has been going on so long that it’s become a bit of a meme at this point. After Grand Theft Auto 5 broke just about every gaming record in the book on release, the hype was always high for a sequel, but no one knew just how high until the very first GTA 6 trailer dropped late last year. And that’s just for the offline, single player content. Grand Theft Auto Online players have been waiting with bated breath to see what the next installment of the series will bring for their beloved online space that’s been steadily rolling for more than a decade.
But even with the massive wait between official releases, Grand Theft Auto 5 online players have been eating well the last few years. The online portion of the game has been getting consistent updates since release, with a constant flow of new weapons, cars, cosmetics, and polished playable content. With the inevitable shakeup that the new game will bring to the series' online community, some players may be thinking about what comes next, and what features may or should carry over to the next evolution of GTA Online.

GTA 6 Online Should Feature More Celebrity Appearances Like Dr. Dre
Having Real Life Celebrity Cameos Grounds GTA Back In Reality
One of the coolest things Rockstar has done with GTA Online has been the inclusion of celebrity guest cameos, and it's something that should definitely continue as the developer moves into its next online generation with the release of Grand Theft Auto 6. Notably, the game included a whole DLC’s worth of missions featuring Dr. Dre wherein the player characters have to assist with the Cayo Perico Heist, as well as the Contract mission taking place shortly afterward. Other celebrities have appeared in GTA Online as well, but they’ve mostly been handled through radio cameos, like Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube, making Dr. Dre’s physical appearance in-game stand out all the more.
Having guest appearances like Dre’s in future GTA Online expansions is great for the game. The world of Grand Theft Auto is, to put it lightly, pretty exaggerated. From the constant parodying of modern American life to some of the most over the top, flashy weapons and cosmetics in video games, it can sometimes feel like it’s a little too much. Los Santos, after all, is supposed to be a send-up of LA, but it’s hard to remember that when there are tanks and fighter jets casually zipping all over the city.
Celebrity appearances, while obviously great for branding as all collabs tend to be, add a little bit of the realism GTA Online loses in the midst of all the fun chaos players love about it. The GTA world is full of larger than life, zany characters, and a face like Dre can bring it closer to reality.
But picking which celebrities fit in a future GTA Online update is another question entirely. Dre's story worked because he was grounded, but he still portrayed an exaggerated version of himself. Future celebrity collabs should lean on those with fun public personas that, while very much grounded in reality, can be played up to better fit in with the over the top world of Grand Theft Auto.
Celebrities Who Would Be Good Cameos For GTA 6 Online
- LeBron James
- Post Malone
- Snoop Dog
- Terry Crews
- Danny Trejo
- Ice-T
- Keanu Reeves
Rockstar Should Be Careful About Which Celebrities It Chooses to Partner With
Still, adding any celebrity to a video game is a double-edged sword, and GTA Online is no exception to this rule. If Rockstar works with a celebrity, it is tying its own brand to an outside source. Any misconduct or scandals coming from the other side of the relationship could be bad news for any in-game content. In the last few years alone, plenty of massive names in the music industry, some of them otherwise perfect fits for a collab, have faced controversies and legal troubles that Rockstar surely wants to stay as far away from as possible. The benefits still far outweigh the risk potential of any GTA 6 Online celebrity collaborations, but it’s still a risk the studio has to be aware of.
